FAQs—Textbooks

 |

BJU Press textbooks are carefully crafted to be academically rigorous and shape a biblical worldview.

Our emphasis on academic rigor differentiates BJU Press from other publishers that focus student efforts on memorizing facts. BJU Press products support active learning that gives students opportunities to analyze, evaluate, and especially create. This helps students develop learning skills that prepare them for the real test of life.

Our materials present academic content from a biblical perspective. Beyond that, our textbooks integrate purposeful critical thinking learning experiences throughout. These experiences are designed to form a biblical worldview in students and challenge secular assumptions guiding students to thoughtfully embrace biblical truth.

Textbooks cannot be accredited. Only schools can be accredited.

BJU Press Teacher Editions are your go-to resource for valuable teaching support. Each unit of instruction has guidance for the teaching schedule, options for customizing instruction for your students, printed and digital resources, and a plan for biblical worldview shaping, Each lesson suggests research-based instructional strategies to engage, instruct, apply, and assess learning to help students succeed.

Our Scope & Sequence is an overview that highlights the material in our textbooks as well as the skills that your students should be learning for each subject and grade.

The main differences between new and old editions are

  • Updated or new content
  • Different structure
  • Different page numbers

As a general rule, we don't suggest mixing different editions of textbooks and materials (within a subject). Because of the differences found in editions, it can be difficult to adapt a new material with an older edition textbook. When a new edition is released, you can find an edition comparison chart on the product page for that course. This will outline the major changes from the previous edition.

Note—Some textbooks are only updated for copyright purposes (see the next FAQ) and are easier to adapt with the previous edition (i.e., a 4th edition text with 4th edition copyright update materials).

A textbook with the words copyright update in the title simply means that the textbook has been updated only for copyright purposes. The content and structure of the textbook have not changed significantly. So, if you are using the Math 4 Student Worktext (3rd ed.; copyright update) with any of the Math 4 (3rd ed.) materials, you shouldn't notice much of a difference.
